Detailed Eligibility of Southern Railway Vacancy
Educational Qualification
- Candidates should Pass the 12th (+2 stage) or equivalent examination with not less than 50% marks in aggregate for NTPC categories.
- 50% marks are not insisted upon in the case of SC/ST/ Ex. Servicemen / Persons With Disabilities (PWD) candidates and in case of candidates who possess qualifications higher than the essential minimum prescribed qualification.
Note :
- Persons, if appointed to the category of Clerk-cum-Typist, should acquire Typing proficiency of 30 w.p.m. in English or 25 w.p.m. in Hindi within two years from the date of appointment and till such time their appointments to this category will be provisional. OR
- Matriculation plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship approved by NCVT/ SCVT for technical categories. OR
- Matriculation plus ITI approved by NCVT / SCVT for technical categories.
Desirable:
- Valid Certificate showing experience in the field and performance given on AIR / Doordarshan, etc.
- Valid Certificate showing Prizes won in competitions held at the National Level by the Concerned Academy/ recognized by the Government.
Professional Qualification
Violin/Table/Mridangam:
Possession of Degree/Diploma/ Certificate in Instrumental Music (Violin/Table/Mridangam) from a Government recognized Institute.
Age Limit(As on 01 January 2024): 18-30 Years
Age Relaxation: Relaxation of 3 years & 5 years is applicable for OBC & SC/ST candidates, respectively. For more details visit detailed advertisement.

Selection Process for Southern Rail Jobs
The selection will be based on a Written/Computer Test (CBT), Practical Demonstration/Document Verification of 100 Marks.
- For Written Test/Computer Based Test (CBT): 50 Marks
- Talent Practical Demonstration: 35 Marks
- Confirmation of Talent by testimonials/certificates/awards: 15 Marks
- Minimum percentage of marks to qualify in the Written Test various categories: UR 40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%. ST 25%.
Application Fees
- For SC/ ST/Ex-Servicemen/ Persons with Disability/Women/ Minorities and Economically Backward Class: Rs. 250/- (Rs. Two Hundred Fifty Only) with a provision for refunding the same to those who are found eligible as per notification and appear in the Written Test.
- For Others: Rs. 500/- (Rs. Five Hundred Only) with a provision for refunding Rs.400/- (Rs. Four hundred only) to those found eligible as per notification and appear in the Written Test.
