Educational Qualification:
Ship Draftsman Trainee:
Mechanical:
- Pass in SSLC.
- Three-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a State Board of Technical Education securing a minimum of 60% of marks, with a flair for Draftsmanship and proficiency in CAD.
Electrical:
- Pass in SSLC.
- Three-year Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a State Board of Technical Education securing a minimum of 60% of marks, with a flair for Draftsmanship and proficiency in CAD.
Age Limit ( As on 19 April 2023 ): Shall not exceed 25 years. ( Applicants should be born on or after 20 April 1998 ).
Age Relaxation:
- The upper age limit is relaxable by 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates.
- 5 years for SC candidates in seats reserved for them.
- Age relaxation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) shall be as per the Government of India guidelines

Selection Process:
- The selection process includes an Objective type online test/Practical Test.
- The candidates short-listed for appointment should undergo a medical examination in the hospitals as prescribed by CSL.
Weightage:
- Diploma Marks – 20 Marks
- Phase I: Objective Type Online test – 50 Marks
- Phase II: Practical Test in CAD software – 30 marks
- Total – 100 marks
Objective-type online test:
- Objective type Online test shall be of 60 minutes duration and consists of two parts General (Part A) – 20 marks and Subject related (Part B) – 30 marks.
- Part A comprises General Knowledge, General English, Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude, with 05 marks each.
- Each question carries one mark.
- There shall be no negative marks.
- Only those candidates who successfully complete the certificate verification shall be shortlisted to attend Phase II (Practical test).
Practical test:
- Candidates are required to prepare a drawing using CAD software.
- Phase II (Practical test) shall be held at CSL, Kochi.
- The marks secured by candidates in Phase II (Practical Test) shall be based on percentile scores.
- Percentile scores are scores based on the relative performance of all those who appear for the examination.
- The top performer will get 30 marks.
- The minimum pass mark for Phase II (Practical test) is 33.33 percentile.
- Rank lists for each discipline shall be prepared based on the marks secured by the candidates meeting the notified eligibility requirements and who pass both the Objective type online test and the Practical test.
- In case, the same marks are secured by more than one candidate, marks scored in the subject part of the Objective Type Online Test shall be the basis of determining the order of the rank list.
- In case of a tie thereafter, relative merit shall be decided based on seniority in age.
Application Fees:
- Rs 600/- for General Candidates.
- Applicants belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST)/ Person with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are exempted from payment of the application fee.
